WARRINGTON is to host its first conference for school governors next month.

The annual school governors' conference will take place on Saturday, October 6, at the Hanover International Hotel in Stretton.

So far, more than 120 governors of schools across the town have accepted an invitation to the event, which is also attracting the attention of education specialists across the north west.

During the conference, three nationally-respected speakers will cover key areas of education including funding, social inclusion and the roles and responsibilities of governors.

Malcolm Roxburgh, Warrington Borough Council's director of education, said: "This first governors' conference will provide a unique opportunity for governors from different schools across the borough to exchange ideas and share best practice.

"We are expecting an excellent turnout and, hopefully, this will become a key event in the education calendar."
