WORK on converting the old post office in Palmyra Square into a restaurant is well under way.

Le Frog should be completed relatively soon, according to planning officers at the Town Hall, while the rest of the site's conversion plans are expected to be subjected to a little tweaking and amending.

The latest plans to be submitted for the Springfield Street restaurant are for installation of traditional canvas-style retractable blinds and lead-faced window boxes to windows.

Plans to develop the ground floor as a state-of-the-art health and fitness club and the first floor for offices are expected to be amended to include part of the fitness club on the first floor.

It is being developed by Wirral-based Prestigious Living which claims to be investing £6 million into creating the exclusive Energie fitness club, which it hopes to open to the public in November.

The progress of the conversion works - which already have the benefit of full planning consent - are well under way inside the listed building, with special tours planned this week.

The hopes are that the developments - which have already seen the former sorting office being redeveloped for luxury residential homes - will become a key feature of the new cultural quarter planned for Palmyra Square.
