AN ARRAY of traffic calming measures are to be introduced on busy roads through Audlem village.

Motorists in the area will face around six weeks of disruption from Monday, October 1, as the work takes place.

There are four roads included in Cheshire County Council's three-point plan for the area. These are Heathfield Road, Hilary Drive, Broadways and Salford.

The measures will see the access from Heathfield Road to Audlem Road closed permanently and there will also be a 20 mile-per-hour speed limit and road humps introduced.

Improvements to the footpaths and road surfaces are also included in the £40,000 plan, which has been funded by the Government.

Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council originally put the plans together and Audlem Parish Council has also been involved.

Borough and County Councillor for the area, Allan Richardson, said: "So many people and organisations are working together to make these plans a successful reality.

"Audlem Parish Council has been heavily involved in the preparations of the phase one, which is getting underway next week."

The county council has promised to do all it can to keep disruption to a minimum and Cllr Richardson added: "We apologise for any disruptions and delays. We will be doing all we can to keep these to a minimum over the six-week period.

"We are hoping these will be outweighed by the benefits of this project for residents, pedestrians and motorists," Cllr Richardson added.

The county council has also said homeowners in the immediate area will not lose access to their properties.
