IT's normal to find over 200 people in attendance at King's Grove High school in Crewe, but last Saturday it was for a different reason.

The school was holding an Open Day and Autumn Bonanza to help put itself on the map.

The school was packed out with parents and prospective pupils, who took the chance to get a look at the revamped facilities.

The highlight of the day was Crewe' s Sarah Jane Irlam, who recreated her appearance as Kylie Minogue on Stars in Their Eyes.

The Crewe and Nantwich Borough Mayor, Cllr Terry Beard, officially opened the day and other highlights included headteacher, Chris Nelligan, racing pupils around the grounds and football and netball tournaments.

The school has had refurbishments and redecorations done and has adopted a corporate colour of blue as well as having its name emblazoned across the front of the school.

The craft, design and technology and art rooms have been renovated and the sports hall and craft rooms have also had a new roof.

Corridors have been re-carpeted with the new colour and there is a new conference facility.

Judith Wiltshire, from King's Grove, said the day had gone very well: "We had a lot of people from different areas of the town who had never been to the school before and didn't know about the facilities.

"It really was a successful day and it was nice to meet so many people, hopefully it will put us on the map," she added.
