PUPILS from Culcheth High School and Padgate County High School, Warrington, were among 140 sixth form chemistry students who visited Daresbury Laboratory last Friday for a lecture exploring the physical power of chemistry.

Dr John Salthouse of Manchester University demonstrated how the power of chemical energy can produce some spectacular explosions.

The lecture was repeated in the evening for the general public and there was also a chance to visit the Daresbury Laboratory Science Centre which contains hands-on exhibits and information concerning research undertaken at the Lab.

Anne Humphreys, schools liaison officer at the Lab, said This laboratory is a national asset and we are pleased to be able to do anything we can which helps both students and teachers enjoy science".
