WARRINGTON Anglers' Association's women's match squad who took the first two team placings and the top three individuals at the National Federation of Anglers North West Championships at Lymm Dam on Saturday.

Avril Slater showed her husband Bob the way to catch barbel on our stretch of the River Ribble at Balderstone. Her best of seven fish weighed in at 10lbs 4ozs 0drms.

Bob countered on Friday with a catch of 11 barbel to 9lbs and three chub to 5-4-0. Pellet was the successful.

Fourteen-year-old Karl Harrison landed the biggest fish of his life on Tuesday, a 23lbs mirror carp which took a fancy to his strawberry bird food bait. Another junior member, Kieron Marsden, caught a 15lbs mirror while Jess Steele netted mirrors of 17lbs and 17-4-0.

On the Bridgewater Canal, Derek Haslam reports catching a perch of 2lbs from Beech Road. The fish was part of a mixed net and fell for lobworm fished down the track. Meanwhile Linda Johnstone had more than 20 bream and roach on red and white maggot.

Ackers Pit is still producing quality catches with anglers reporting good bags of bream, roach and carp. Dominic McGuire, aged 11, float fished strawberry boilie on Sunday to take five carp, four commons of 5-5-0, 6-4-0, 6-12-0 and 8-4-0 and one mirror of 8-12-0. His friend, Mike Broadhurst, caught one mirror of 6-4-0 while Jacob Plant reports taking a mixed bag of 21 roach and bream in a two-hour session.

Crucien carp have gone on a feeding frenzy at Woodshaw Reservoir. Caster, corn and meat are proving successful methods.

Cicily Mill Pool continues to provide quality sport. Dave Ward reeled in 23 cruciens, 22 tench and seven roach.

Brian Griffiths reports a mirror of 17-8-0 from Moore Quarry where Jess Steele caught a fish of the identical weight.

On the River Dee at Rossett Ernie Hutchinson and Stan Deakin have bagged up with dace, chub, perch and grayling. Stick float and cast was their successful method. They also witnessed a lot of larger fish, possibly sea-trout, moving mid-stream.
