Warrington Town...5 Yorkshire Amateurs...1

YORKSHIRE Amateurs found Mike Heverin and Chris Moores too hot to handle on Saturday as Warrington Town stormed through to the first round proper of the FA Vase, in which they will play Durham City at home on October 20.

The deadly duo are a handful for most non-league sides never mind a mediocre outfit like Yorkshire Amateurs.

So it was no surprise to see them add to their season's tallies with a brace apiece.

Town manager Alan Blair said: "The two lads up front looked sharp today and they took their goals really well.

"I was particularly impressed with Mike Heverin. He looked a bit sluggish at the start of the season and he has recently lost his place in the side to Gareth Chadwick. I hoped that this would give him a gee-up."

Yorkshire Amateurs drew first blood when poor marking at an 11th minute corner enabled Chris Aimbylon to plant a bullet header in the goal.

Two minutes later, Heverin latched on to Robbie Preidt's flick-on and rifled home.

Town took the lead on 28 minutes thanks to Dave Tickle's first goal of the season courtesy of a stunning free kick from 25 yards.

They extended their lead eight minutes later when Andy Moore cut Robbie Preidt's cross back into the danger area and Moores made no mistake from close range.

Heverin hit the woodwork twice in the space of a minute after the break.

He was not to be denied his second goal. He raced on to an Andy Tague punt up field and directed a looping header over the advancing goalkeeper.

Town made it 5-1 when a pin-point pass by Moore found Moores clean through on the edge of the box and he calmly slotted the ball home.

Blair said: "It was lucky we were playing such a poor side as the players looked tired. We can certainly play better than that but we did enough to win."
