WARRINGTON Athletics Club are showing strength at junior cross country level.

Coach Paul Layfield described the results from the opening event of the season as the club's best for more than 10 years'.

Daniel Cliffe, Matthew Jackson and Michael Williams were outstanding in the tough Uttoxeter races on Sunday.

The 1.75-mile race for under 11 boys involved two steep hills, six river crossings and a lot of mud but for Daniel, Matthew and Michael these were the sort of conditions that brought them success in last year's Cheshire League. Daniel won the race in 10.40mins but only one place ahead of Matthew in 10.41. Michael finished 18th in 11.52 which secured Warrington the team gold medal.
