RECENTLY I went to Manchester Airport to meet my son on his return after nearly 12 months abroad.
I paid £2.20 for a one hour pay and display ticket, an exorbitant fee by any standards but in the excitement of the moment forgot to stick it on the windscreen. On returning to the car I found a £60 fine had been imposed. As I had not deliberately attempted to defraud the company or park illegally I sent a copy of the purchased ticket and a request that in the circumstances they would drop the charge.
This has 'under careful consideration' been rejected. I had expected perhaps a small administration charge. I have been advised that these people seem able to do and charge what they wish and would like to warn your readers of this. I have made a second appeal in the hope of a more sensitive decision. £60 is a lot of money on top of a £2.20 parking fee.
