IN answer to Dr Thaker's letter about the admission of girls into Knutsford Scout groups, this matter was raised years ago when the Association announced that girls could join the Scouts.
At a Knutsford Scout executive meeting it was decided that when a girl joined a Cub pack -which was usually lead by a woman - there must be women leaders in the higher sections of the same group so that as the girl progressed she had adult women leaders as well.
Although there were several ladies who did valuable work in the Knutsford Scout movement - usually by leading the Cub packs - there were none in the higher sections as far as I remember. It was decided by the executive not to encourage girls to join Knutsford Scout groups.
In the event, again as far as I can remember, no girl did apply to join a Knutsford group.
