clubs are in the bag

THE new Mid Cheshire Golf Society League has a full set of clubs, but may open its doors to more.

Red Lion and Linpac joined last week to give the league, which tees off in March, its agreed first year limit of eight entries, but a couple of other teams have also expressed an interest.

Secretary Peter Wilson said: "We wouldn't really like to leave out anybody wanting to join in the first year just because we have reached the limit we set.

"I'm sure we can accommodate a couple more teams in the fixture list providing they are happy with the rules and regulations that are already in place.

"Of course the other teams will have to agree to extend the programme beyond the original 14 matches but it would be a pity to turn potential members away."

Whatever happens, nobody will be accepted into the competition after the next league meeting at the Knights Grange pub on Sunday, February 3.

On this day the £50 entry fees must be paid and fixtures will be drawn up by fixture secretary Andy Hulse.

Meanwhile, league chairman Graham Newton is on the look-out for possible sponsors to put their name to the competition.

He said: "We think potential sponsors will agree it is a fairly prestigious competition, there are none like it in the area."

The eight clubs competing on the opening day are Tesco, Red Lion, Linpac, Pockets A, Pockets B, Travellers Rest, Princes Feathers and Wincanton.

Matches are eight-a-side and will be played on Sundays at Knights Grange and Pryors Hayes.
