Ruskin Park 10 Birchfield 2nd 14
Birchfield travelled to St Helens with just 14 players and it seemed like one of those days when they put the ball straight into touch from the kick off.
The Ruskin stand off broke through from the scrum to score a converted try and although Birchfield steadied themselves Ruskin increase their lead with a penalty.
Birchfield upped the pace and after a long ball from Hayes, Goulding got through to score under the posts and Whitfield converted.
Solid defence from Cogley, Fallon and Hunter kept Birchfield in the game and only slack handling stopped them from taking the lead.
Birchfield began to put Ruskin under pressure after the break and a try eventually came.
The ball was switched to Royle who stood his winger before going round the corner on an arching 60-yard run to score under the posts and Whitfield converted again.
Despite some dubious refereeing decisions, Birchfield held on to win 14-10.
