WIDNES Vikings chairman Tony Chambers has responded to a challenge from his opposite number at Leeds Rhinos, Gary Hetherington, for a rematch.

The Vikings pulled off a surprisingly comfortable 22-10 win over the Rhinos in an exhibition game in South Africa on Saturday evening.

And within 48 hours Hetherington challenged the Vikings to try their luck on the Rhinos own stamping ground, Headingley.

"I haven't been able to speak to our coach Neil Kelly about it yet," said Chambers, "but, providing he is happy to go ahead, we will be happy to meet Gary's challenge.

"We have played two pre-season friendlies that we were not expected to win and dominated both so it is good for us to keep the momentum going.

"I'm sure Gary is hoping the team will put the exhibition result behind them but we will not make it easy for them, even at their place, and travelling to Leeds will be a good experience for us.

"We play St Helens at Knowsley Road on Monday night and both matches are good chances for our players to see how clubs that are used to Super League handle themselves on match day."

Should the game go ahead it would most likely take place on the weekend of February 16-17.
