THE proposed leisure complex on Eaton St, which I would welcome with open arms, was a fiasco from the word go.

If the local council had not caused so many problems with Parkridge Developments, perhaps they would not have pulled out of the development plans.

As for paying back over £2 million for a derelict land grant and building Dunwoody Way, and the hope of refurbishing Crewe baths to improve public buildings, why do we pay local taxes and road fund licences if not for this type of development? We should not have to rely on the sale of the land.

The money the council must receive for the sale of other land for new housing estates that are popping up all over the area, should more than cover the cost of this development.

I welcome the idea of a new cinema and bowling alley, but why the need for another pub/restaurant. There are plenty in Crewe.

With the recent stabbing over Christmas, I would not even consider taking my family near the town at night for a drink or meal anyway.

I am all for Matalan or any other type of clothes outlet to be built there. Crewe's choice of shops is very limited. If it is not a mobile phone shop - its a shoe shop or a travel agent.

I would love to spend my money in Crewe. But, for men especially, there are only three major shops for us to buy clothes from.

I mainly travel to Wrexham to shop as it has a vast choice of shops to choose from with plenty of cheap parking available.

I hope the council looks at the types of shops the public want if the bus station is ever moved to make way for a new shopping development.

The council should do a questionnaire to see what type of shops the local residents want, not make the decision themselves on facilities no one would use.

I am starting to doubt the competence of our local labour council. I have voted for the party's candidate on several occasions. I am rapidly changing my mind. I think it's time for a change, if not, change to a new candidate.

A final plea - "do your homework. Ask the public what they want."
