Trust appeals

IT'S the big 40 for Nantwich-based nature conservation charity, the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, this year.

Members kicked off celebrations by launching the Trust's 40th Birthday Appeal in Crewe Town Centre, last Wednesday.

Borough mayor, Cllr Terry Beard was on hand to help out trust director Chris Mahon with a special cake cutting, supplied by Chatwins, as shoppers looked on.

Starting in 1962, the trust has experienced rapid growth during the 1990's, with increasing membership and over 45 nature reserves now under its management.

Its work towards the protection of wild areas and species in the county has been invaluable.

"Our fortieth birthday year is all about celebrating the good work we have already achieved with our partners," said Chris.

"We are also attempting to raise our profile through events.

"We have so much more work to do in the conservation of wildlife and the environmental education of people and we hope to encourage new members to join us."
