CHEERFUL chippies, Andy and Ingrid Nicolaou, are celebrating a decade in business with a three-day, bargain bonanza.

The couple, pictured left, who run the Top of the Hill shop at Sandbach, want to share their anniversary and continuing success with customers who have been helping them to keep ahead of the highly competitive take-away field.

So on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, January 28, 29 and 30, they will be serving up their popular mix of traditional chip shop fare and more exotic specials all at half price.

Their premises, literally at the top of The Hill, have housed a fish a chip shop for almost a century.

"We've been here for ten years now and we think Sandbach and our customers are just great," said Ingrid.

"The town seems to have had a lot of bad publicity lately, mainly because of vandalism, but we think it's a wonderful place. Since we started out, a lot more take-aways of all nationalities have sprung up here. But we're happy to say that they haven't affected us. We get customers, not only from Sandbach, but from all the villages around and from Alsager too," she added.

The couple moved to South Cheshire from Birmingham where Andy's life, since the age of eleven had revolved around the fish and chip shop his family ran after moving from Cyprus.

Son Andy and daughter Lisa are continuing the family tradition.

Andy jnr runs the Codnall chippy at Coppenhall, Crewe and Lisa and her husband are planning to set up business in Macclesfield.

To prepare their parents for the hectic three anniversary offer days the younger chippies have treated them to a trip to Cyprus for a holiday.

"Their offer to keep things going whilst we had a break came as a lovely surprise. We shall probably need to build up our strength as we expect to be eaten alive during our half-price days," said Ingrid.
