WITTON boss Benny Phillips believes the next two games will prove how much his side are genuine promotion contenders.

They go to Ossett Town, fourth in UniBond Division One, on Saturday (3pm) before hosting second placed Radcliffe Borough in the league a week later.

Saturday's 2-1 victory at Chorley was Albion's sixth league game without defeat and leaves them just three points and three places off the coveted play-off positions.

"If we're serious about where we are going to be, the next two games are very important," said Phillips. " We really need to underline that fact.

"I said this to the lads before the Chorley game and they came through that. I have to commend them for what they have done in training and on the pitch but we need to make inroads in the next two games in particular.

"On Saturday we play a very experienced side and it will be tough, and if you get Radcliffe on their day they can take you to the cleaners. But I'm looking forward to both games."

Albion have sent a complaint to the FA after Lee Cox became the second player in a week to be given international clearance to play in the League of Wales.

Although Cox hasn't figured in the first team recently, Witton are aggrieved that the required seven days' notice of approach has not been given by Porthmadog, also the case when goalkeeper Greg Price joined them a week earlier.

Phillips has applied the seven-day rule to Mossley stopper Martin White, although he will be cover for Kevin Whitehad, who has impressed the manager in the previous two games.

Another outfield signing could also be on the cards as Phillips is interested in the versatile Steve Cunningham, who has been released by Rossendale United.

Albion held a board meeting on Monday to formally discuss Northwich Vics' plans to share Wincham Park next year, but can only agree in principle until Vics send official correspondence.

The Nationwide Conference were also due at the ground on Monday to assess the upgrades needed to host football at their level next season, but this has been put back to Monday, February 18.
