Halton Schoolboys 5 Oldham Schoolboys 4

HALTON started the stronger and Mark Dundon latched onto a pass that split Oldham's defence to fire the ball into the top right-hand corner on five minutes.

Billy Webb then outpaced Oldham's defence but was brought down in the area and awarded a penalty, which he blasted into the top left corner.

This second goal was the wake-up call for Oldham who got back into the game and scored two goals during five minutes of relentless pressure.

Halton's defence of Adam Mulvey, Jay McLoughlin, Matty Jones and Jack Rimmer soon regained their composure and started playing plenty of balls down the wings for Kyle Myers and Jack Stead who supplied the forwards with plenty of crosses.

Jack Stead was unlucky not to put Halton ahead when his 20-yard shot rebounded off the post but with five minutes of the half left Andy Cullen fired a shot into Oldham's net follwing a goalmouth scramble to give Halton a 3-2 lead at the break.

Halton's manager John Rigby replaced 'keeper Jordan Rigby with Simon Palmer, who didn't enjoy the best of starts. A quick thinking Oldham striker scored within the first minute but Palmer made amends with some fine saves during the rest of the game.

Halton's passing improved in the second half and they eventually took hold of the game and kept Oldham locked in their own half.

Matty Tootle and Andy Cullen dominated the middle of the field while Webb and Dundon terrorised Oldham's defence.

After 10 minutes of the half, Matty Swann replaced Cullen, Ben Hurley replaced Myers and Sean Welch replaced Stead.

Full backs and Rimmer started to command the wings and after 15 minutes a 20-yard Matty Swann shot wriggled through the 'keeper's hands and into the net.

The three substitutions seemed to add a different dimension to Halton's game, which Oldham couldn't handle.

With five minutes left Halton were awarded a free kick 25 yards out and Matty Jones fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Oldham did manage to get a fourth goal but it was too late to recover.

Halton's next game is at home to Huyton on Saturday, January 26 at Widnes Rec, kick off 10.30am.

Wigan Latics 2 Runcorn Boys Club 0 (Cup Quarter Final)

RUNCORN suffered their first defeat of the season away at John Rigby's College in Wigan.

The Latics deservedly took the lead in the 15th minute from a free kick 20 yards out and the visitors failed to equalise two minutes later when Adam Mulvey's effort from the edge of the area narrowly missed the post.

Runcorn did create a number of chances but neither Mark Dundon or Johno Harrison could apply the finishing touch.

The second half was much better for Runcorn and midfielders Matty Jones and Matty Tootle created more chances for the centre forwards. Kieran Slater was unlucky not to score when his shot rebounded off the post straight into the arms of the 'keeper.

Wigan were awarded a penalty against the run of play when Matty Jones brought down the forward in the box and although Runcorn's 'keeper saved the spot kick, the rebound ended up in the net.

For the last 10 minutes Wigan applied a lot of pressure on Runcorn's defence but good defending from Josh Fisher, Jack Tompset, Matty Tootle and Jay McLoughlin kept them at bay.

Runcorn exit from the cup but are still unbeaten in the league but only need three more wins from the remaining 10 fixtures to mathematically win the league.

M.O.M was Josh Fisher on his debut.
