Mond Rangers 1 Maghull 2

(Carlsberg West Cheshire League)

MOND gave a spirited display against fifth placed Maghull and were unlucky not to snatch a point at the end.

Steve O'Hara was in fine form alongside Gilmore in midfield and the Wayne Jones and Ged Bushell partnership up front is starting to blossom under new manager Steve Murphy.

Mond were the better side at the start of the game and deservedly took the lead after 25 minutes when long throw was headed on at the near post by Gilmore and Wayne Jones smashed the ball past the astonished 'keeper.

But the lead was short lived and Maghull hit back five minutes later when Stuart Kirby made a good save only for Yeats to hit the rebound into the net from an acute angle.

After the break Mond continued to play the more constructive football and their back four of Tudor, Stockton, Waring and Howard dealt well with the breakaway threat.

Ged Bushell went close after being put clear by Gilmore but Mond were soon behind against the run of play when Horrigan hit the bar and a cross back into the area was met by Yeats to score.

Despite substitutions and Mond putting Maghull under pressure in the closing stages, they hung on to take all three points.

Mond's second team came away from New Brighton with a creditable draw 0-0 to deny them of three victories against them this season.

Mond's Weekly Bonanza was won by Ian Wilde. Next week Mond are at home to General Chemicals, kick off 2.15pm.
