Clock Face Miners 14

Widnes Albion A 20

AFTER last week's defeat Clock were hoping to get back to winning ways but it was not to be and their promotion hopes were given a dent.

Clock made a good start with a penalty from Karl Walker, but then a handling mistake led to Albion's centre racing 60 metres down the left to score under the posts for a converted try.

Albion increased their lead still further with a penalty, before Clock got back on level terms. Barber slipped the ball to winger Karl Walker, who broke through a two man tackle to outpace the Albion defence for a try which he then converted.

The scores were now level, but once again it was the visitors who regained the lead right on half time with an unconverted try in the corner.

Two minutes after the break Clock restored their lead, thanks to scrum half Damian Grimes, who side-stepped his way through to score close to the sticks, giving Walker an easy conversion.

With their confidence and lead now restored, Clock should have taken command of the game, but didn't and despite going close to scoring on several occasions it was the visitors who secured the points with two unconverted tries to seal the game.

The St Helens Dyson Centre man of the match for Clock Face was Steve Hayes.
