THE kidnapped taxi-driver has spoken about his terrifying experience.

At a Police press conference he described how he was tricked into stopping after being flagged down by a woman.

"At first I was going to drive around her because I do not necessarily stop for people hitchhiking, but then I saw a lad lying in the gutter so I pulled up to see if he was alright.

"She went over to the passenger door and pulled it open. He was in the car very quickly and he put a knife to my throat.

Mr Sadiq was asked to drive to North Wales and had the knife at his throat for much of the journey.

"I have had training in security and so I did exactly what they wanted.

"I could not get out of the car as I had my seatbelt on, I felt terrified. I was really stressing.

"I do not recall much of the journey, I remember the roads were very quiet and he was giving me directions."

Mr Sadiq said he had had a few problems in the past in his job as a taxi driver but nothing ever this serious.

"I was scared for my own life. I thought 'why is this happening to me'?

"He calmed down through the journey, he moved the knife lower down. I could not crash the car because the knife would have gone into me."

"I am not sleeping that well and I am trying to put it out of my mind and not think about it. I would ask them to turn themselves in.

"I cannot work without my car but at the moment I cannot go back to work straight away, I am just going to see how it goes."

DCI Adrian Wright added: "A lot of people would have been going past this scene and there should be other people who have seen this happen.

"We have absolutely no idea as to why they wanted to go to North Wales, but they were very determined to get there. They kept him hostage for over an hour and that does concern me."
