A NEW community facility is planned in Grappenhall and Thelwall to mark the Queen's golden jubilee.

A trail linking the two villages has been suggested by Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council, to be opened in the summer.

Clr Barbara Mawer said that although the trail was still very much at a planning stage it would hopefully lead to increased interest in the area and boost trade.

"What we would like to do is make people aware of what is available in the area, not by creating new paths but by producing leaflets and maps of the area," said Clr Mawer.

"We are also quite interested in trying to involve people who are not residents of the parish, by linking it with other footpaths such as the Trans Pennine Trail.

"This would be good for local traders and for local pub owners.

"If we can get sufficient funding, we would like to enhance some of the trails and introduce more benches."

The trail is intended for all members of the family, young and old, and could be completed either at a brisk pace or at a leisurely stroll.
