EXCITING changes are in store for Chaigeley School in Thelwall if new plans are accepted by the borough council.
The school, on Lymm Road, has applied for planning permission to demolish part of the existing school and replace it with a new sports hall and classroom accommodation.
The school buildings, first used in 1946, are becoming old and in some cases unsafe for the pupils.
Principal Drew Crawshaw believes that the new buildings will help the continued development of the boys.
"The new buildings will consist of a small sports hall, classrooms and office space. A lot of the older buildings have come to the end of their useful life," he said.
"What these changes will mean is greater access to the curriculum, with new technology classrooms and the sports hall.
"It will mean we can have longer PE lessons for the boys, because currently we have no sports hall and have to travel to Bewsey. This will cut down on that travelling time."
Mr Crawshaw confirmed that the plans meant exciting times ahead for the school.
"This will hopefully increase the motivation of the boys and it will secure this area as a school for the next 40 or 50 years which must be a good thing," he added.
The plans will also include the restoration of a woodland area at the front of the school, where some of the old classrooms are currently sited and restoring the house to its original status.
Mr Crawshaw hopes this will tie in with plans by Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council to create a village trail in the area.
