Mr John Corless, husband of Mrs Irene Corless, died of a heart attack on November 29. He was 54.

Mr Corless, of Colne Road, was a lifelong resident of Burtonwood. He was employed as a mechanical engineer at Rosser & Russell Building Services, based at North West Water, Lingley Mere.

In his earlier working days, Mr Corless served his apprenticeship at Helenworth Engineering, St Helens, then after a short spell at the American Army base, he joined the Department of the Environment at RAF Burtonwood, where he travelled around the country, overhauling and installing diesel generating plant.

Mr Corless later took a job for 10 years as a maintenance charge hand at Ashworth Special Hospital, and then for a short time was based at the RAF camp, working for WS Atkins, looking after the military personnel's homes. Throughout his working life, all his colleagues became his friends.

Mr Corless was a dedicated, loving family man, who was committed to his faith and always on hand to help his family and friends. He was also a good listener, who loved hearing about the rugby achievements of his sons and particularly enjoyed socialising and playing snooker with his many close friends.

Mr Corless took great pleasure in his greenhouse and supplied everyone with fresh produce cultivated there. He was a founder member of Burtonwood Rugby Union Football Club and an avid rugby fan.

Mr Corless leaves his wife, two sons, and two brothers and sisters.

A service was held on December 7 at St Paul of the Cross RC Church, Burtonwood, followed by interment at Burtonwood Cemetery. The Rev Father John Schofield and Rev Father Grant Mad officiated.

Arrangements were made by Co-operative Funeral Services, of Bewsey Road.
