Mr Philip James Phibbs, husband of Mrs Porcia Phibbs, died of heart failure on December 21. He was 59.

Mr Phibbs, of Annie Street, was a lifelong resident of Warrington.

He was employed as a mason with Warrington Borough Council for 33 years until taking early retirement owing to ill health, and formerly worked at Peter Leigh, Warrington Co-operative Society and Tetley Walker.

As a young man, Mr Phibbs attended Warrington Boys' Club and later played rugby for Blackpool, Salford, Woolston and Rylands clubs, serving as captain when Woolston won the cup.

He liked dominoes, watching Western films, and was a member of the Audie Murphy Fan Club.

Mr Phibbs was devoted to and treasured by his wife and family and they shared many happy times together, including holidays at Towyn and various holiday camps.

He leaves his wife, two daughters and a son.

Requiem Mass was held on December 21 at St Benedict's RC Church, followed by interment at Warrington Cemetery.

The Rev Father Tony Slingo officiated.

All donations were sent to the Coronary Care Unit, Warrington Hospital.

Arrangements were made by Co-operative Funeral Services, of Bewsey Road.
