Mr James Singleton, husband of the late Mrs Bertha Singleton, died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on December 13. He was 84.

Mr Singleton was born in Padgate and lived in Orford for 33 years before moving to Abergele. Then in 2000 he returned to Warrington and became a resident of Park Manor Nursing Home. He was employed as a wages clerk at Kitson's Insulations for many years.

In his former days Mr Singleton played tennis and bowls at Padgate Tennis and Bowls Club, then in 1975 he and his wife moved to Abergele. Unfortunately, eight months later she died and he decided to remain in Wales.

Mr Singleton enjoyed visiting Australia, particularly Brisbane, where his daughter lives, and also holidays in Spain.

In 1992 his health began to deteriorate, due to failing eyesight and asthma, and he decided to return to Warrington and live in a residential home.

Mr Singleton was a strong and outgoing character and made an impression on everyone he met.

He was devoted to and cherished by his family and leaves two daughters and three grandchildren.

A service was held on December 21 at Christ Church, Latchford, prior to cremation at Walton Lea. The Rev John Goode officiated.

Arrangements were made by John Burrows & Sons, of Lymm.
