Mr Robert (Bob) James Dewar, husband of the late Mrs Edna Dewar (nee Troman), died of heart disease on November 6.

He was 75.

Mr Dewar, of Dudlow Green Road, Appleton, was born in Liverpool, and in 1935 his family moved to Warrington.

He attended Oakwood, and then Boteler Grammar Schools and after leaving, briefly worked at Thames Board Mills.

Mr Dewar then joined the Royal Corps of Signals and was posted to India until the end of the war.

After his demobilisation he joined Manchester Foot Hospital and became a state registered chiropodist, later taking over his father's practice in Palmyra Square.

Mr Dewar was also a member of the medical department in the Cotton Mills, Alliance Box Co Ltd and J Crosfield & Son.

In the 1950s he met and subsequently married his wife and they lived and raised a family at Norcott Brook, Whitley, for 27 years.

The couple had many happy times abroad in the summer and at Christmas, and also enjoyed visiting their daughter and grandchildren in America.

Mr Dewar was a member of the British Legion and was a usual Thursday night patron of the club, as well as a regular attender at the annual Remembrance Parade.

He joined Grappenhall Probus Club in 1983 and in addition went to many of the meetings and outings, and health permitting played bowls.

Mr Dewar leaves a daughter, a son, and two grandchildren.

A service was held on November 13 at St Wilfrid's Church, followed by interment in the churchyard. The Rev Malcolm Kelly officiated.

Arrangements were made by A Maddock & Son, of Stockton Heath and Lovely Lane.
