A TOWN centre church will be promoting themes of reconciliation and harmony this weekend as they conduct a service promoting world peace.
Rev Chris Goacher, of Cairo Street Unitarian Chapel, is urging people to attend services held on January 26-27 to show steadfast support after a horrendous year for the world in terms of peace and justice.
Rev Goacher said: "Many of us wrote to the Prime Minister and George Bush, following the tragedy on September 11, urging caution and pointing out that any retaliation must be squarely within the terms of international law.
Referring to the controversial treatment of Al-Qaeda prisoners at the United States naval base in Guantanamo Bay, he added: "How can the community argue for the human rights of those in third world countries if one of the greatest nations in the world can turn its back on the process of law, in a moment of understandable anger and revenge?"
