THE tragic events of the September 11 terror attacks on New York have prompted students at Warrington Collegiate Institute to produce a charity record.
Staff and students from the Supported Learning Centre at the Collegiate were so moved by the events that they recorded a CD single entitled The Big Apple Rap, the proceeds of which will be donated to the New York Fire Department.
Students initiated the project by presenting the idea to their music lecturer, Steve Smith.
Joanne Edwards, Dino Ginesi and David Holmes came up with their own rap for the track and students from across the Collegiate gave their expertise in recording the song.
Steve Smith is delighted with the efforts of the group.
He said: "Students have worked extremely hard and thoroughly enjoyed working together on the recording sessions in particular.
"The experience of following this project through has been quite challenging, especially when recording multiple tracks for the CD. Students have learned a lot, from how to use a professional microphone, to voice projection and performance skills."
Staff and students in the art and design department also contributed to the project by creating the artwork for the cover sleeve.
The CD is available from the Collegiate's Winwick Road campus for £4.99.
