DEAF and hard-of-hearing people in Warrington are being asked to take part in a research project about deafness and exclusion.

The University of Central Lancashire and Deafness Support Network (Cheshire) are conducting the study, which will look at how deaf people often face barriers to employment and education, sometimes with no access or opportunities at all.

Emerging From The Chrysalis will be a nine-month project, which will end in a report to Cheshire and Warrington Learning Skills Council.

It is to involve 80 deaf people, and is hoping to uncover facts that have been brushed aside for years, in order to help shape future developments which could improve employment prospects for deaf people.

If anybody would like to help with the research, contact Jennifer Dodds, research assistant, deaf studies, at the department of education and social sciences, University of Central Lancashire, Livesey House, Preston, PR1 2HE, or e-mail jkdodds@uclan.ac.uk
