Lymm RFC 21

Blackburn RUFC 32

LYMM blew hot and cold and were always second best to a lively Blackburn side in this rearranged Rugby Football Union North Two West fixture.

A win for Lymm would have moved them into second spot in the league but too many unforced errors and players giving away good possession cost them.

Lymm committed a countless number of infringements and they fell behind to a penalty goal.

They then gave away a soft converted try before prop Jim Fergusson crashed over following a series of scrums. Paul Thatcher converted.

Scampered

Blackburn scored a 'push over' try to give them a 15-7 half-time lead.

Lymm then camped out in the corner and they were rewarded with a penalty try which Thatcher converted to put the game back in the balance.

Blackburn stretched their lead with two converted tries before a late rally by Lymm led to Kinsey feeding MaGuire, who scampered to the line.

When Martin Bower was taken out by a late tackle, Lymm opted for a scrum on Blackburn's line and Kinsey cut through for a consolation try which was converted by Thatcher.

Lymm will need to raise their game against arch-rivals Warrington on Saturday. The match will be played at Beechwood.

A minute's silence was observed at Lymm prior to the game against Blackburn in memory of Robert 'Bob' Kelly, who died recently from Alzheimer's disease.

Bob was a stalwart of Lymm first team for many years.

Lymm's second string put in a creditable performance in their 19-8 defeat to Blackburn Seconds.

They dominated up front but they only had a try by Nick Girdlestone and a penalty from Chris Elliott to show for their efforts.

Lymm Fourths were losing 12-10 against Sandbach Fourths until the boot of Liam O'Callaghan turned the game with one of his three penalty kicks.

The same player converted Keri Anderson's try to seal a super 16-12 win.
