Warrington Grange 4

Witton 2

WARRINGTON Grange women's soccer side played in their biggest game of the season on Saturday and they certainly rose to the occasion.

Witton started the match four points in front of Warrington but the home side closed the gap to a single point after a fiercely contested game.

Warrington took the lead on 20 minutes when Kate Wilcock reacted quickly to a rebound off Witton's goalkeeper to score from eight metres out.

Witton equalised from a corner five minutes later.

A determined Warrington side played some superb soccer in the second half but Witton were always dangerous on the break.

Witton took the lead against the run of play after 60 minutes following an accurate cross from the right.

This stung Warrington into action and they were rewarded when Helen Sadler netted direct from a corner.

Player of the match Rachel Sweeney then found the net for Warrington with a fantastic strike from 20 yards out which was too hot to handle for Witton's goalkeeper.

Rachel Nolan, who had been closely marked throughout the game, then managed to wriggle free and smash home Warrington's fourth goal.

After the game, the entire Warrington team was praised by manager Barry Higgins for playing their part in a superb win that keeps them in with a shout of gaining promotion.
