A TEENAGE cyclist is in hospital with serious head injuries after he was in collision with a HGV on Farnworth Road in Penketh.
Rob Croston, aged 15, was crossing the busy road on his morning paper round at around 7.30am yesterday, Wednesday. The 30-tonne red and blue Renault tipper, which was not laden, was on its way towards Widnes.
The emergency services were called to the scene and Rob was taken to Warrington Hospital by ambulance where his condition was described as 'comfortable' as the Guardian went to press. Farnworth Road was closed until 12.30pm while accident investigators completed their inquiries.
Rob is an avid Warrington Wolves fan, and is a familiar face at the Wilderspool ground where he completed work experience and now helps out on match days and with coaching.
The club is planning some special treats for him while he is in hospital. A card signed by all the players will be winging its way to the ward this week, and a signed shirt, which will replace the one hospital staff had to cut from him after the smash, will be presented to him as soon as he is well enough.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash. If you can help, call the traffic unit on 01244 613813.
