A FOOTBALLER from Warrington has scored a major win in the National Lottery - and is now looking forward to marrying his fiance in style.

Lee Webster, from Great Sankey, netted a prize of £48,823 when he matched five numbers plus the bonus ball on Saturday's National Lottery draw.

The 30-year-old, who is known as Webber among his Warrington Town Football Club teammates, watched the draw live on television for the first time when he discovered he had won.

He said: "I knew which numbers I had chosen but still had to check before telling my fiance Samantha. We sat for a while letting it sink in, then cracked open a bottle of wine to celebrate before calling my mum.

"You never dream it's going to happen. I suppose someone's got to win, so why not me - but I never thought it would ever happen."

It is not the first time the central defender has had a win on the lottery - he once matched four numbers and won £70 - and despite the temptation to splash out on his love of football, Lee now plans to put the money towards marrying Samantha in style.

He said: "I suppose I could pay for Beckham's wages to play one match for Warrington Town, but I'd rather use the money to marry Samantha in style."

Samantha Disley, aged 29, teaches at Wade Deacon High School in Widnes.

When Lee bought his ticket from the Spar shop in Old Hall, he decided to go for a random selection rather than his usual numbers - and now a family holiday with eight-month-old son Kyle is on the cards, along with a new car.
