AN Aladdin's Cave of porcelain and other items believed to have been stolen, has been recovered by St Helens police. Now they are appealing for the owners of the items to come forward. Police say some 60 figures have been recovered.

At this stage seven people have managed to identify some of the Lladro figurines, Coalport and Royal Doulton collectables, which were allegedly stolen from houses mainly in the Windle, Dentons Green and Newtown areas.

St Helens CID and Eccleston Neighbourhood Police Officers who have helped conduct the operation are expecting a further 10 people to come forward in the very near future and hopefully identify some of the objects currently being held which also include mobile phones, electrical equipment and items of jewellery.

Detective Sergeant Steve Lowe, told the Star: "We are appealing for people's assistance in order to match up the properties with the rightful owners. Further investigations are underway and we are following up other information and forensic evidence. Handling stolen goods is considered worse than stealing and we will always aim to prosecute. By handling stolen goods you are encouraging the crime of theft. On a personal note I would like to say thank you to all those who have helped us to make some positive headway into this incident."

A 30 year-old man from Sutton, has been charged with a number of handling offences. After appearing at St Helens Magistrates Court this week, he was remanded in custody for a further week.

Another man has been charged with shoplifting and remanded in custody. Whilst two other people who have been arrested are currently on police bail.
