INFORMATION points aimed at giving community groups an opportunity to research funding are to be installed at libraries in Newton and Haydock.

The free service will enable local groups to access a wide variety of information using computer and internet facilities.

A stock of publications essential for fundraising activities has been provided, as well as a directory of funders and resources, and a directory of venues.

The information points in Newton and Haydock will be just two of 15 set up across the borough in libraries and community centres.

They will offer workshops to bring sources of training, information and networking closer to home for grass roots groups.

The service has been established by St Helens CVS, in partnership with the borough council's library and information service, and with funding from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

Barbara Swift, CVS chief executive, said: "This year marks the 70th anniversary of the CVS and the launch of these information points is a timely reminder that partnerships between statutory and voluntary agencies serving our community are currently very productive and successful."

"We very much look forward to working together with libraries and community centres."

Information points will be launched at Newton Library on February 8, between 2pm and 4pm, and at Haydock East Library on February 11 between 10am and noon.

Community groups are welcome to attend the informal occasions to make themselves aware of the facility.
