DRAMA pupils at Verdin High School are asking for the community to help them bring a national theatre title to Winsford.

Verdin's very own Vytal Youth Theatre group is entering a competition organised by the Royal National Theatre entitled International Connections.

The competition involves young people performing plays especially written by international playwrights.

The students at Verdin have chosen Take-Away by Jackie Kay.

And that is where the community comes in.

The school wants volunteer costume designers and set builders to come forward and it needs materials such as large off cuts of hardboard and wood, paint and scaffolding.

And to make the play as authentic as possible the students need the following props if anyone has them.

They would like Indian or Chinese traditional dress, shop signs and a take-away style menu board.

The group is to perform Take-Away at Verdin High School on March 20, 21 and 22 and will later perform in the regional heat at the Theatre Clwyd, Mold, in May.

For this performance the youngsters also need the hire or use of a van for a day.

But the school isn't expecting all this help for nothing.

In return it is offering free advertising space in programmes and on tickets with around 1400 people expected to come and see the performance.

It is also offering free admission to the shows at Verdin and Theatre Clwyd and will also reimburse for the cost of materials where appropriate.

The best performance from each region will be invited to perform in June at the National Theatre in London.

l Pic to come Friday morning.
