PEOPLE are being urged to go bananas as part of a colourful fundraising event in aid of St Luke's Hospice.

An appeal has gone out to businesses, individuals and organisations to Go Yellow on June 21, in a bid to raise desperately needed funds for the Winsford-based hospice, which cares for people with life-threatening illnesses.

Each day, St Luke's must raise a minimum of £2,500 - just to stay open.

And it is hoped that everyone in Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich and Tarporley will help meet the daily target by getting involved in the charity event, whether it's by paying £1 to wear a blonde wig, braving a bath of curry or organising a custard pie throwing contest.

Hannah Cullis, fund-raising manager at St Luke's, said: "Anything goes as long as it's yellow.

"The idea is to raise money for St Luke's and have some fun at the same time.

"We've chosen yellow because it's the colour of sunflowers, the symbol of the national hospice movement."

St Luke's also helps people who need expertise in nursing and medical care and a holistic approach to life.

It believes that patients, families, friends and carers need support too because incurable illnesses affect whole families.

Hannah added: "It's an awful lot of money to raise each day but it's worth it when you see what a difference it makes for our patients and their families.

"It's important for all of us to live life to the full, whether that is a matter of days, weeks, months or years.

"Go Yellow is a fantastic chance for businesses and individuals to lift their spirits and at the same time help a local hospice to continue its valuable work."
