THE Golden Jubilee will arguably be the most memorable event this year - but Marcelle Rigby has her own special occasion to remember.

Marcelle lives in Daneside Court, Northwich, and has just celebrated her 100th birthday.

She marked the occasion with her two nieces, Beryl and Geraldine, and her close friend Teresa Goldsmith.

Husband

Marcelle was born in France in 1902 and it was here she met her husband - an Englishman named Wallace Rigby - in the 1920s.

The couple moved to London before living in Winsford until Wallace died 10 years ago.

Marcelle loved spending her time among the beautiful scenery of Cornwall although she didn't travel much with Wallace as they were both "happy and content" where they were.

Marcelle moved to the nursing home from Over Deane four years ago and now enjoys life at Daneside.

She spends most of her time with Teresa who is in her late 70s and lives in Northwich by the river.

Teresa visits Marcelle every day and they have been friends for at least 10 years after meeting at church.

Marcelle said: "I am very happy living at Daneside Court and I especially love the gardens and the birds."

Marcelle's room was the perfect place to celebrate her birthday as it was well decorated with balloons and banners lining the walls.

Sandra McDougal, team leader at Daneside Court, said: "Marcelle likes to keep herself to herself and doesn't want to make much of a fuss about her birthday."
