VIKINGS boss Neil Kelly has applauded his players' efforts in their close fought victory against Salford Reds and says that much of the same is needed for the visit to Headingly on Monday, writes Caroline Foran.
Kelly is busy gearing up his squad for the stern challenge of the Leeds Rhinos but says confidence is high after the weekend's nail-biting match at the Willows.
"We are happy with our season so far and four wins from seven is a good start.
"I feel we were the better side on Friday and we showed that when we kept going for the full 80 minutes.
"A lot of people have asked me if I think Adam Hughes' try saving tackle at the end was one of the best I've ever seen.
"Well, at the time it was!" said Neil.
The Vikings face a tough month with games against Leeds, Wigan, Hull and St Helens and Kelly hopes his players' effort and commitment will equal that shown against Salford.
Neil added: "We will prepare well for the games and give 100 per cent for ourselves and the fans. The supporters were great at Salford and it is nice to see so many black and white flags and shirts.
"It makes you feel very proud to represent Widnes."
Kelly also denied rumours that Lee Briers has signed for the Vikings.
He said: "We inquired about Lee some time ago and were told by Warrington not to pursue it. I think he is a tremendous player and our interest still persists but Warrington have not changed their mind."
