Widnes 12 Northwich 35
FRU South Lancashire Cheshire One
NORTHWICH'S first ever win at Widnes was the perfect way to end the 2001-2002 campaign and must rank as perhaps the highlight of it.
Centre Richard Norton scored the first try, the first of a hat trick, linking with Steve Campbell and Andy Manicom to go over. Joe Wood converted.
A series of rucks culminated in a try for prop Jan Cartman but the next 10 minutes saw a complete contrast as Northwich gifted their hosts two tries.
But after the break Northwich regrouped and a slick handling move gave Campbell the chance to score and put his side back in front.
Joe Wood then pulled out a drop goal from 15 metres inside the Widnes half to make it 20-12, but he was embarrassed minutes later when he struck a kick in front of the posts against the upright, attempting to convert Norton's second try.
Norton completed his hat trick from Campbell's kick ahead before Campbell helped himself to another to wrap up the victory, and the season, in style.
