NORTHWICH Vics' youth team won the Staffordshire County Cup for the second time in five years on Sunday.

A good team performance meant Vics deserved their victory over Walsall side Chasetown, Ben Buckley netting the only goal of the game in the first period following sustained pressure.

Central defenders Mead and Vernon were outstanding, Linnett in midfield was commanding and the front two of Houghton and Buckley put Chasetown under pressure throughout.

Ben Connett in the Vics goal made a great save in the dying minutes, diving to hold a shot at his left hand post.

Vics: Connett, Blinkhorn, Mead, Vernon, Boothby, Smith, Linnett, L Kimber, Crawford, Houghton, Buckley. Subs not used: Washburn, M Kimber, Willington.

l LAST Wednesday Vics' School of Excellence side missed out on winning the northern section of the Nationwide PASE Championship, losing 4-0 to Hednesford Town.
