A DISASTER start cost Crewe and Nantwich dear in a 39-20 home defeat to Ellesmere Port.
After just 10 minutes, their scrum-half suffered a harsh dismissal for tackling a player without the ball and the disadvantage showed.
Some excellent running rugby racked up 20 points by mid way through the first half and a drubbing looked on the cards.
To their credit, the Crewe forwards rallied and drove over the line for a try by prop forward Andy Pemberton.
Danny Lynch landed the conversion and then hit a penalty goal to leave an improved deficit of 25-10.
Crewe continued their brave approach to proceedings in the second-half and both sides scored two tries each, Alistair Johnston and Lynch going over for Crewe.
Ellesmere converted theirs though, widening the gap to a flattering 19 points at the end.
Crewe finish their season with the big rearranged derby against Sandbach, KO at Willaston is 3pm.
