AN INNOVATIVE new theatre company has been working with local pupils to make the most out of their time at school.

Shavington High, Kings Grove and Brine Leas are all taking advantage of a new range of drama and physical theatre workshops, thanks to Tic Theatre Company.

The workshops are designed to teach pupils theatre skills but also promote self-awareness, confidence, assertiveness and self-esteem.

All attributes the company feels are relevant in developing a child's potential.

One of the three founding members, Kelly-Ann Davies explains:

"Current research has shown that disaffection in schools is linked with low self-esteem and lack of confidence, and there is evidence that the creative arts can have a real impact on these areas."

Last week, Tic began work on a piece of drama with Shavington High pupils on the subject of bullying.

This will be performed in front of other pupils in the hope of promoting awareness of the issues involved.

"Together with the schools, we're aiming through drama techniques to teach skills to help deal with everyday life problems and prevent young people from missing out at schools and later in life," added Kelly-Ann.
