THE determination of one family to overcome great odds has earned a brother and sister two of the Mayor's Oscars.

Tracey Clark was diagnosed with a brain tumour in August of last year and has spent the last nine months fighting the terrible disease.

Tracey, who is aged 12, has not only managed to fight back against the cancer but with the help of her brothers Brendan, aged 14, and Joseph, aged 9, she has raised thousands of pounds for Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where she is being treated.

The Mayor's Oscars were aimed at highlighting the achievements and courage of local people and Tracey and her older brother Brendan were presented with the Oscars for Young Citizens of the Year.

Brendan was nominated by one of his teachers at King's Grove School and parents Colin and Jacqueline said the awards rounded off a good year after Tracey received the Child of Achievement award in February.

Colin said: "We formed a fund-raising charity in Tracey's name in September and we handed over a cheque for £3,500 in January.

"Our aim was to better last year's total this year and we already have raised another £3,500!"

The money was raised through things such as car boot sales and Brendan often does raffles at King's Grove, while Joseph raises money through Beechwood Primary, the school he attends.

Jacqueline said: "We would just like to thank everyone for all their help, it is a family effort, and it keeps us all going.

Colin added: "Tracey has had to have so much treatment and she has never moaned, not once."
