ARE the citizens of Knutsford as worried about losing the Sessions House as the various loudish voices that filled the first five pages of your paper last week?

The closing down of this old building will complete the doing away of an area of shame that once included the 184-year-old prison, which only recently David Woodley described in his well written account of Knutsford Prison - The Inside Story.

The accusations bandied about in the Knutsford Guardian were outlandish, peevish and smelt of political contamination.

Of course, the Sessions House has had its day and the site has no need to become any of the things suggested, such as living accommodation or restaurants. Room for a new post office counter could be made available in a bright and airy manner.

But there is room for other suggestions where business could be conducted.

Knutsford now has an excellent public library, another seat of learning, another place of interest and value for the citizen.

I am sure there are many ideas to be gathered, once that monstrosity of a Sessions House wall is removed from the front of the library in Toft Road.

What I would like to say to my fellow citizens is 'speak up'. Do not leave the town to wallow in its old-fashionedness and its out of date thinking and squeezed up look.
