KNUTSFORD ...8

Woodside ...3

AN EARLY success for Knutsford Tennis Club was the ideal way to begin the new summer season.

The men's third team had a disappointing season last year but, under the captaincy of Ken Rhodes hope to reclaim their place in the sixth division.

Winning eight sets to three against Woodside men's fourth team provided the perfect boost to their campaign.

The first match of the season was played on a beautiful evening and, with friendly and sporting opponents, a satisfying time was had by all.

The match was much closer than the score suggests and, as always, early in the season, there was a worry that the necessary 10 sets would not be completed.

Fortunately the new floodlights meant darkness was not a problem, but the official finish time of 8.50pm still applied.

Having already equalled their total points score for the whole of last season the team hope this result is a good omen for the future.

Their next match on April 23 away at Didsbury will be a friendly grudge match as Knutsford's new coach used to work at the club. The players are hoping Knutsford can turn the winning blip into a winning streak.
