KNUTSFORD Little Theatre becomes the trendiest bar in town tonight (Wednesday) for the opening of its latest production.

Set in the early 1980s in a 'posh' cocktail bar, Shakers Re-stirred, which was penned by John Godber and Jane Thornton, gives a wickedly funny glimpse of the hustle and bustle in the place where everyone wants to be seen.

The four-strong cast have a tough job playing first the Shakers' waitresses, then 'the boys', then the waitresses again, and then checkout girls, oh and not forgetting the yuppie businessmen.

And with minimal props and black curtains as scenery, the actresses, Sarah Hollins, Jackie Sergeant, Laura Broughton and Rebecca McLean, have nothing to hide behind.

Their performance determines the success or failure of this brilliant script. But it is not something to worry about - if their performance at the dress rehearsal on Monday night is anything to go by.

They carried off the changing characters and scenes brilliantly, making it easy for the audience to follow what was going on.

But really, was there any doubt? For when Knutsford Little Theatre puts on a show it is always done to the highest standard.

And where actors' performances are concerned, Shakers Re-Stirred is up there with the theatre's best.

Directed by James Broughton, the show offers a fascinating view of the reality lurking behind the plastic palms and Pina Coladas at the trendiest bar in town.

But if trendy is not your style and cocktails are not your tipple, the Queen Street theatre is still worth a trip this week - just to see an embarrassingly honest portrayal of three girls' antics in a clothes shop changing room.

Shakers Re-Stirred shows until Saturday. For tickets call John Freeman on 01565 653448 or contact Gray Travel in Princess Street, Knutsford.
