FOR the second time in two weeks the bowlers from Frodsham Red Lion were outclassed by their counterparts from Sale Excelsior.

Going into the Winsford Veterans Super Cup, held at Winsford Cons, the Frodsham team were full of confidence after a good win in the Pogson Pairs but in a competition against some of the best teams in the area they came unstuck despite a valiant performance.

Red Lion met Chadsmoor in an epic semi final which will stick in the memory for some time.

Lion had a fantastic start with Mike Thomas winning the first game 21-3 followed by Arthur Land who took his game 21-16.

Then Chadsmoor came out fighting and took the next five games leaving Frodsham needing a miracle to qualify for the final.

That miracle almost came in the shape of a brilliant 21-6 win by Ken Whitby but sadly it was not quite enough to see them through, losing the match by just two points 130-128.

Chadsmoor progressed through to the final where they faced a Sale team which is quickly becoming one of the most feared in the area.

Another close match saw Sale eventually win through, although Chadsmoor put up a brave fight to narrowly miss out by 152 to 148.

At the Winsford Super Cup on Monday Wigan team, Garswood Hall wrote themselves into the record books by winning the title for the fourth time.

But victory didn't come easily and it took an eight hour marathon, in which they beat Birches Head Hotel (Stoke) 183-158 and Millhouse Park (Sheffield) 194-167, to claim the Penner Oakes Trophy.
