General Chemicals 1 Manweb 0

CHEMICS had to show their strength of squad last Wednesday, starting without both strikers Gary Tyrell and Tony Erickson and kingpin defender Robbie Moore.

It left the game very much a physical one, with one of Manweb's midfield players dismissed for a reckless challenge towards the end of the match.

The first half was evenly matched with man of the match Kevin Patterson and Mark Ingham battling in the Chemics midfield and, with Matty Blair outstanding between the sticks, the game looked to be heading for a goalless draw.

But in the last 20 minutes the home side rallied with Whitehead pumping long balls into the Manweb penalty area, with Mike Smith and Wes Cannon continuing to create chances from the right wing.

And with 15 minutes remaining, Chems striker Paul Hennin, making his debut for the club, latched onto a through ball to beat the visitor's defence and steer the ball into the net.

It left the fans and home bench with a nervous finish to the game but despite several attempts by Manweb, 1-0 remained the final score.

It made it six points out of six for the Chems in the Carlsberg West Cheshire League division one.
